Wednesday's Ambitions

I was feeling particularly ambitious. Here's the list:
  •  8:30 am Leave with 5 kids to drive 1 1/2 hours to Portland.
  • 10:00am Joshua's appointment with the Endocrinologist.
  • Drop Food Diary off at the GI doctor.
  • Walk next door to the Cardiologist and ask 4 questions.
  • Find the Developmental Doctor's office, drop off paperwork.
  • Find the Orthopedist's office and drop off CD, make an appointment.
After using the power of Google maps, I had a plan and off we went.

Here's how it really went:

We left at 8:50 am. I white knuckled it all the way hoping we missed the school buses. When you homeschool, it is annoying to be delayed by school buses when you are trying to get somewhere on time. Even if you left late,  because you homeschool, and you don't regularly get your kids dressed and out of the house.
There was an on street parking space waiting for us because Big Red doesn't even pretend to fit into a parking garage. We walked in the door at 9:59 am. Miracles never cease. I left 4 of the kids in the small waiting room and took Joshua into the abyss of yet another doctor's office.

This appointment deserves a post of it's own. Letmetellya!!!

An hour in I realized I better check on the status of the waiting room. The receptionist took pity and put on a movie. They were glued. All good.

We finally got out of there with stickers, coloring books, and toys.

Up to the third floor to drop of the food diary. Success.

Went next door to the Cardiologist's office. They know who we are! I am so impressed. I LOVE this office. Asked my questions and got some answers. Success.

Back to the second floor to visit the lab. There was strategic taking of turns pushing all these elevator buttons.
We got a great technician named Ben. Makes all the difference!
 More blood. Poor Joshua.
"Pin Cushion" might as well be his middle name.

Lots of blood. Looking for answers.
Meanwhile in yet another waiting room....
the rest of the tribe was quietly waiting.
Just enough before Joshua's vein shut down. Success.
Joshua got a Sylvester bandaid and wanted a picture of the clock.
We took the elevator down to the first floor,
all washed our hands,
and finally left the building at 12:15 pm.
Drove a few miles and found 1577 Congress. Dropped of the paperwork and begged for an appointment sooner than 6-12 months. She wrote a note probably to appease me. We'll see.
Found the orthopedist office. Went in to drop off Joshua's back x-ray and make an appointment only to find out that one had already been scheduled for April? Not sure who they talked to?

Feeling utterly proud of myself for making the rounds, we went back into town for the big reward!

What we've been waiting for all day.

The Children's Museum. I have some fun pictures to post later.

  1. Oh my. I need a nap after just reading that. Bless you sweet friend! A question just born out of curiosity for you: Do they think there is something else besides his heart issue going on that is attributing to his lack of growth? Do they not think it is all cardiac related? Just curious as I learn more and more and ever more about the world of heart kiddos. :)
