Some of us went down to Boston for a grand adventure.
After debating whether to follow
the GPS or the Google map directions,
we opted for the GPS.
Heading into Boston, the rain was light and the bridges were high.
When you see this bridge, you know you're close.
Ms. GPS took us through the Callahan tunnel. My carmates were freakin' out and thinking about roof panels falling on us. I'll take a tunnel over a bridge any day.
We were on a mission to see this woman.
Or so I thought.
They tore our tickets at the door. Uh, I had to hold on to this one because we got separated. There were two Brooklines in the GPS and I sorta picked the wrong one. We finally wound our way back from a tour of Dorchester to the real Harvard Street where Erika and I jumped out of the car and sprinted down the sidewalk before they gave our tickets away. We panted and trotted and made it by 5:56. Meanwhile, Lindsey went in search of a parking space. In downtown Boston. During 5:00 traffic. She parked. She sprinted. She made it. I'm happy to say.
After a half hour talk, we followed the crowd across the street to the book signing where we promptly got in line, giving thanks we were late in the first place. Last in, first out. We were able to be inside the store where it was a lot warmer.
Me and my adventurous peeps.
I can't think of two better friends to attend my first book signing with.
Ree Drummond is extremely personable.
Meaning the line moved very s..l..o..w..l..y.
Okay. Erika had the camera. Because she was super bored. My 12 year old doesn't have a cell phone to text with or an ipod to keep her busy like everyone else in line.
I discovered that Erika has an unusual foot fetish.
She likes to take pictures of people shoes.
She told me she was taking pictures of flats here.
Taking a break from the shoes....
I'm not sure what she didn't take a picture of.
Our Farmer, Self Sneaker Portrait, Cool Boots.
Taking a picture of one's own trick thumb is always entertaining.
Back to the flats.
Did you know I've been on a book fast?
I haven't bought a book in over two months.
I know Amazon has dropped in sales.
Because of me.
Standing in a super duper bookstore for two hours surrounded by every book ever written was overwhelming. Kind of like eating too much chocolate. After I dumped my $30 big ones for a book to sign, I decided I might be able to go another two months. Maybe.
After about two hours, we arrived at the head of the line. I utterly embarrassed myself by introducing my homeschooled, photography degreed, cow degreed daughter saying that she was too shy to send her resume. Goodness, that woman is gracious. After signing for two hours, she asked us where we were from and told Lindsey good luck.
On the way to the car, I was reliving the brief encounter and Lindsey quietly murmurs, "I did send her my resume, awhile ago." Me. Shrinking. I am a duh.
We found the car, loaded up, and drove along the Charles River on our way out of town. The lights and skyline were beautiful.
Somewhere along the way, we found a Wendy's because I had free frosty coupons. Second duh of the evening occurred. I thought we went to Boston to see Ree Drummond and buy her new book. My daughter, who found out about the event, got the tickets, and drove us to Boston informed me that we were bonding.
I am a super duh.
Thank you, Erika, for the fun pictures.
Thank you, Lindsey, for a wonderful bonding experience.
With Extra Love and Kisses on Top,
Your Triple Duh Momma.
